The first is the pressure side automatic pool cleaner which works off the return line of your pool's circulation system. You may need to have a line run if you do not have one already. The second type is a robotic pool cleaner which is self-contained (functions independent from your pool's circulation system and does need its own line or pump) with this option you may find you do not need to run your pool's filtration system as often as before.
